Dr. Jergins loves space. Not necessarily the space between teeth, but outer space. That’s why he was thrilled to visit the Smithsonian Museum National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. And among all of the relics and mementos of Apollo 13, John Glenn’s space capsule, and The Flyer, he came upon the teeth cleaning tools used by astronauts in outer space, while on their space missions.
“The everyday, like keeping your teeth clean, becomes exceptional when you’re in space,” said Dr. Jergins. “After seeing all of these items related to space travel and the Apollo missions, I’m ready to be the first dentist in space.”
The Smithsonian Museum display featured toothbrush, toothpaste, and other items used by the astronauts on Apollo 11. The Smithsonian Museum has a wonderful display at the National Air and Space Museum that covers flight from its earliest beginnings to the latest high speed jets and rockets. And, don’t miss the dental display!
